James Garfield is generally known for being killed just a short time in the wake of becoming president serving from March to September 1881. On November 11, 1858, James Garfield and Lucretia Rudolph Married at the home of the bride's parents in Hiram. They were 26 when they married and had seven children, five of whom survived into adulthood to make a lasting impact on their country.

DEATH
President Garfield was fatally shot at the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad Station in Washington, D.C. and 79 days later he Died on 19 September 1881, Elberon, Long Branch, New Jersey. Garfield's assassin was Charles J. Guiteau, whose motive was revenge against Garfield for an imagined political debt, and getting Chester A. Arthur elevated to president.
